Here is a site that wine lovers might enjoy. I found it very neat and I would like to visit this place, it sounds like a blast. It is the Medoc Wine Marathon.

42 kilometers, 23 wine tastings along the way, and no rush. LOL.

If anybody is into making their own wine, or would like to try, there is an excellent recipe for Gorseflower Wine on the Channel 4 site. It looks good and is ready to bottle in two weeks!

It's my birthday today and I received two bottles of wine - a Rioja and a Shiraz; both Spanish and although I didn't used to be keen on Spanish wines, they have improved a lot over the years and I enjoy them now :)

I had no idea that Canada produced wine on such a large scale ( The Thursday File 21 May 2009) and I find it surprising that none of these wines have found their way onto our supermarket shelves! I had a quick look at on-line wine suppliers and found only two U.K. companies selling Canadian wine and they are a bit pricey for me.

I am fairly new to wine, but I am enjoying experimenting with various reds and also making my own from the various kits. I have created a private label of different kinds called Ye Olde Geezers and have bought the domain name for it. It is a lot of fun, and my wife has even gotten into the making of wine coolers. Fruity tasting light wines like black cherry and green apple. Very refreshing and inexpensive to make. I also like to buy the Sangiovese Italian red wine and add just a touch of diet cranberry soda to take the pucker power out of it. I find the french wines much too dry and tart. So far we have 6 different labels and a wine rack with about 60 bottles in it, with another 30 bottles of black cherry ready to bottle in about 2 weeks. Lots of fun.

I know Canadian wines have won many awards and I'm very glad. I have visited several winery's in British Columbia and Ontario and have tasted several - sorry to say I'm still not a fan of Canadian wine.
Not being an expert I can only go by what tastes good to me and I definetely still like my French white.
Many years ago I took a course from the Wine Advisory Board that offered basic information as well as great tasting sessions. I was quite amazed that I was able to distiquish sensations when I was able to taste one type of wine - rinse, then taste another of the same type.
At that time the instructor gave the opinion that many Canadian wines have additives and he wished they would stop trying to make their wines like the European wines but consentrate on making a distinct Canadian wine - he felt they could be very good but very very different. I don't know if that has completely happened yet as I still see many Canadian wine bottles with French or Itallian names.
